The Hat Conformateur by Aille-Maillard, around 1880

The hat "conformateur" invented in France in 1852 by Allie-Maillard, used for over a century to measure the head circumference and to register the mark on a paper card, which will precisely match any hard hat (boater, top hat, melon, etc..) to its future wearer. Previously, the hatter preserved the print of each customer in his file.
